- Those Who Had Their Say: 4
This is a word that all entrepreneurs are familiar with. Perseverance means being steadfast in doing something despite difficulty or delayed success. There is no elevator to success, you must take the stairs. Therefore, as entrepreneurs we must learn to persevere throughout our processes for success.
Building a Business? Listen up!
I have chosen the path that leads me to business development. I am currently in the process of building several businesses, so this first post is directly related to my entrepreneurial story.
Ideas are only ideas until you build the platform to act upon them. Startup businesses often operate at the expense of the shareholders. Watching your money go into a business that has yet to create revenue can create great amounts of stress. Obviously, the money is going to what has been perceived as a successful opportunity, but this generally can’t be guaranteed. You must be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and let it motivate you towards success. This is one of many situations while starting a business where you will need to call upon your abilities to persevere.
Is there any structure to this concept?
Yes, there is! There are things that you can do to help yourself persevere. Here is a short list to show steps towards success.
- First, you must start with goal setting. You have to know what it is that you are doing to be successful at it. Try writing down daily, weekly, and monthly goals. It will bring structure and benchmarking to your process.
- Identify your goal, and then begin your planning. You must research and formulate your plan accordingly. Make preparations for the best, along with the worst. Seek counsel with people that have more experience than you do. You can find out what has worked or not worked in the past for them, and make appropriate decisions to avoid complications.
- Go for it! You’ve set goals, planned your concept, and organized resources. Don’t make the mistake of procrastinating because you are afraid of failure. Avoid people that discourage your success. You will be the most vulnerable at this point, so you must persevere. Go for it!
- When and/or if you fail… TRY AGAIN! Failure is an indicator that your planning didn’t play out correctly. Re-assess, and go for it again. Repeat this process until you have achieved your goals.
So, can I use this outside of business?
This concept can be applied to any goal you will ever set in your life. Michael Jordan was cut from his high-school basketball team, but ended up being one of the biggest sports icons to walk the planet. Whether you are building a Fortune 500 company or learning how to tie your shoes, this mindset will help you through it.

Great post, and I enjoy reading it. But to work for me, I need big “WHY”, why i set my goal and why i need to achieve it, this will sure make my “perseverance”:)
Thanks for my first ego boost ^_^. I completely agree with your comment. Motivation is a key factor to success, and finding something that you love to do is great way to ensure your goals are completed.
